Jurassic Park III Movie Review
Jurassic Park III is a 2001 science fiction action film directed by Joe Johnston and starring Sam Neill. It’s the weakest entry in the franchise.

“It was kinda preachy.
And too much Chaos.
Everything Chaos.
It just seemed like the guy
was high on himself“

Paul and Amanda Kirby, a wealthy couple, offer research funding to Alan Grant, a doctor, on the condition that he accompanies them to find their missing son on a deadly island. In that premise alone lies my major issue with this sequel – I could not buy any of it. If Alan truly did not want to go to the island, he wouldn’t be outsmarted so easily. The entire setup felt silly and obviously fabricated due to the studio wanting to make another Jurassic Park movie.
Another problem quickly arrives in the form of Paul and Amanda. These characters are so damn annoying that I wished the dinosaurs killed them both. They are the most uninteresting, most annoying characters in the franchise. Others are also uniformly dull and forgettable, though praise should be directed toward Sam Neill who gave yet another stellar performance in his signature role. He made this movie watchable as the only recognizable face from the original. But I did wish for Jeff Goldblum to also arrive and save the film from its utter lack of humor.
Jurassic Park III pretty much became an action feature in its second half, but unlike its predecessor, it tries to emulate so heavily the original’s famous sequences both in musical cues and in iconic imagery. Needless to say, it did not work whatsoever. Those bits felt overly manipulative and just rehashes of a much better movie.

I would also say that ‘The Lost World’ is a better flick too. That’s because that one at least felt somewhat different whereas this one simply copies the original, though with much more action instead of adventure, which of course bored me. Some of the action is certainly quite fun, do not get me wrong. The action execution is good, but it’s still overwhelming. I liked some dinosaur scenes, but the CGI is less convincing this time around.
Jurassic Park III is the weakest entry in the franchise. It has some quite fun action and Sam Neill saves the whole thing as the only recognizable face from the original, but it tries to emulate the original in many rehashed scenes, the action is overwhelming and the storyline itself felt overly forced.
My Rating – 2.5
You can get the entire Jurassic Park franchise in this very neat package.
