Japoteurs (1942)
Japoteurs Review
Japoteurs is a 1942 animated short film from Famous Studios. It is the tenth entry in the Superman series.
It depicts a plane being hijacked by a Japanese man and Superman must stop him. Needless to say, this was too timely for its war period and the Japanese man looks too ugly and silly. But, this is actually much tamer and much more polite than your usual racist film dealing with Japanese villains during this period. It’s more subtle and much more believable.
But the overall story is simple and the action is rarely anything special. I liked the ending quite a bit and it was amusing though. As for the animation, it’s actually pretty good and I am glad to witness that the films still retained a pretty strong animation quality during their production under Famous Studios as well.
Japoteurs is a bit problematic in its story and it’s overall not memorable in action, but it has its moments and the animation’s pretty good.
