Jackass Forever Movie Review

Jackass Forever is a 2022 comedy film directed by Jeff Tremaine and starring Johnny Knoxville and the rest of his gang who are all back after twelve years. It’s a well executed, but familiar flick.

First off, I have to say that getting back to this usual formula of pranks with no connective story tissue felt disappointing to me after the success of ‘Bad Grandpa’, which was the best entry in this particular franchise. I do realize the importance of the crew getting back together, but I personally prefer a story-oriented take myself.

With that being said, this is a surprisingly solid entry that is actually more memorable than most of the other flicks in the series. There are so many standout pranks here, the best ones being the hilariously elaborate ‘Godzilla’-inspired opening and Steve-O having to endure genital torture by a beehive. That one was particularly excruciating to watch, but definitely wild and funny. The prank with the spider was also very elaborate and unexpected.

For all of the elaborate pranks that they pulled off here, they couldn’t bypass the hurdle that is the repetitiveness of the pranks being used. For example, the penis torture scenes. They are so abundant here that the movie became repetitious very quickly. The toilet humor jokes were less present thankfully so, but those that were there were too disgusting.

Jackass Forever introduced new team members and the first woman of the crew. The problem was that these new people were simply not utilized properly and they ended up being underused and frankly forgettable. The standouts were Knoxville himself along with Preston and Steve-O.

Overall, the movie is well made, but the second half got significantly less entertaining and more repetitive. This will probably be the last movie in the franchise, though that could be up for debate given that it grossed 80 million at the box office. Whatever happens, these movies will remain highly entertaining, disposable prank comedies that are serviceable for a fun night watch, but nothing more than that.

Jackass Forever features the return of the entire crew after a decade or so. The results are wildly entertaining, if decidedly uneven. Some of the pranks are superbly executed and a couple are even surprisingly elaborate, but many are also repetitious and uninteresting. It’s a fun flick, but the previous entry had a story, so this one going back to that collection of skits approach felt disappointing.
