It’s Nice to Have a Mouse Around the House Review

It’s Nice to Have a Mouse Around the House is a 1965 animated short film from the Looney Tunes series. It is a solid, but weird cartoon.

Granny calls on Daffy Duck of the Jet Age Pest Control company to do the job of removing Speedy Gonzales from her home. Daffy’s most ingenious contraptions are useless against the cunning Speedy. First off, it is very strange to see this pairing. And I would still contend that Speedy and Daffy don’t quite fit in together. Something just felt off. Granny in particular should not have been included as she was always fighting Sylvester, not the other way around.

But it’s still a pretty solid cartoon because the contraptions that Daffy makes are quite fun and some of the gags are very well executed and even quite memorable. The highlight is the opening when Daffy says a line about his profession with his usual hilarious lisp. I laughed out loud at this moment as he was so funny saying it. He stole the show from the other characters that were all underutilized.

It’s Nice to Have a Mouse Around the House is very funny in a couple of moments, but it’s dysfunctional in its central pairing.

My Rating – 3.5
