It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia Season 9 Review
The ninth season of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia is a pretty good season that is mostly very satisfactory.

The Gang Broke Dee is phenomenal. It is a very rewarding episode as it is a culmination of sorts for Dee’s character as she gets everything she wanted here only for the twist ending where it turns out that she was tricked by the guys. She is great here and the story is phenomenal, but it is Dennis who surprised me here and almost stole the show from Dee in her episode.
Gun Fever Too: Still Hot is an interesting episode with a smart storyline and it has its fair share of terrific scenes, but it is in the end too much lacking in real laughs.
The Gang Tries Desperately to Win an Award is such a classic. It is an episode that finally serves us some real bar business stuff and it again showcases how horrible at bartending they trully are. The major hihlight is the scene in that bright bar which is filled with hilariously cheesy lines.
Mac and Dennis Bye a Timeshare is the only bad season nine episode. It truly is bad. Everything here is boring and lifeless with both of its subplots being unoriginal and unfunny.
Mac Day is absolutely amazing for a variety of reasons. One is that it is just a damn fun episode from beginning to end, not to mention frequently hilarious. Furthemore, it is a perfect exploration of Mac’s character and probably the best and most important one yet. Not only do we see clearly that he is truly gay here, but it is brilliantly played for laughs along with his poor karate skills. And country Mac is such a memorable one-off character. Both the premise and the execution of this episode is top-notch.

The Gang Saves the Day is another classic and again it succeeds in almost every way. The gang witnesses a robbery and everyone acts out their fantasy situation out of it. Frank’s scenario is too short and definitely the weakest one here, but Charlie’s is such a fitting, wonderful parody of ‘Up’. Dennis is really funny with that broadcaster and the emphasis on her tits is hilarious. But Mac and Dee are the two standouts for sure. The former is hilarious for again playing out his karate and gay fantasies with the fighting and the heaven scene being so funny, but the latter is even better as it is such a spot-on scene for the character that playes out brilliantly. The butler and Josh Groban parts are the best.
I’m not a big fan of The Gang Gets Quarantined. It definitely has its moments, but it is overall a rehashed episode from some previous ideas and it is never as funny as it should have been.
Flowers for Charlie is ridiculous, but in such a good way. Watching Charlie become smart is very funny and refreshing, but the twist ending is satisfactory and logical.
The Gang Makes Lethal Weapon 6 suffers for tackling this premise for the second time, but it still has its funny moments with Mac’s gay scenes being very funny and Dee’s presence is surely appreciated.

The Gang Squashes Their Beefs is such a funny, entertaining execution of a great premise. Cricket being stabbed once again is hilarious and the McPoyls got some great scenes. It is a great episode which amusingly shows us how many enemies the gang has created throughout the seasons.
This ninth season of Sunny has its quite weak episodes, but it is mostly really good. I gave it the same rating as I did to the eighth season but only because those weak couple of episodes drown it down. Otherwise it is a stellar season with Mac being the funniest and the best realized member of the gang this time around.
Worst Episodes: Mac and Dennis Bye a Timeshare and The Gang Gets Quarantined.
Best Episodes: The Gang Broke Dee, Mac Day and The Gang Saves the Day.
My Rating – 4.1
