It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia Season 13 Review
It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia Season 13 is the best season that the show had in years thanks to the return to form in terms of its old-fashioned comedy approach and still great characters.

“Be gone from me now!“

The Gang Makes Paddy’s Great Again has a good use of Mindy Kaling and I just loved how they fooled us all with Glenn Howerton supposedly leaving the show, but that wasn’t the case as Dennis returned at the end of this first episode which features a fantastic use of his sex doll with Mac being hilarious here.
The Gang Escapes is also very strong, in particular with Dee’s scenes as she continues to get violent injuries in a hilarious fashion. The entire concept is also great and the execution, in spite of some slow scenes, is very satisfactory. The Gang Beats Boggs: Ladies Reboot is unfortunately the weakest episode of the bunch as I only really loved their parody of female comedies being the same as the male ones, but otherwise the premise isn’t fully utilized for laughs.
Time’s Up for the Gang is awesome. This is a more modern, politically charged Sunny episode, but the one that still works despite all odds. Unlike liberally brainwashed South Park creators, these guys stayed true to their roots and although they clearly showcased how each and every member of the gang is a sexual harasser, they did not change their characters and at the end of the day they remain the same. The trial was hilarious, Dennis’ manipulation is on-point and that revelation that Dee raped Charlie was hilarious.

The Gang Gets New Wheels splits the gang beautifully and each gets a very good story with the highlights including Charlie and Mac literally beating the shit out of some kids and Dennis yelling “Be gone from me now!” He is becoming more and more psychopathic as the show progresses and I love watching that carefully constructed evolution of his.
The Gang Solves the Bathroom Problem is a classic gang trial episode which so smartly touches upon gender politics and sexualities while still staying hilarious and true to their style. The Gang Does a Clip Show could have easily been just a filler, but it became so much more than that in its glorious second half with a killer science fiction premise that was so original for the show and so well executed despite all odds. This entire season is actually very authentic and daring at times.
Charlie’s Home Alone is weaker than most other episodes here as it just follows Charlie and isn’t as funny because it’s too gross and slow. But it’s still solid and Charlie Day sold all the situations here. The Gang Wins the Big Game is so well constructed from the previous episode as the two are so well connected and every character serving his or her purpose here was hilarious with Dee being so funny here and their tackling of the Eagles the Super Bowl winning was a lot of fun.

Mac Finds His Pride isn’t as great as I wanted it to have been and certainly not as funny, but it’s an episode that became more sophisticated and emotional than anyone could have expected and I really liked that about it. Frank is actually the funniest character here as his gross-out humor remains very effective, but Mac’s journey toward becoming gay is a great progressive story arc for the show well explored here with that final dance part being beautifully choreographed.
So this thirteenth season not only is very good, but a proof that this show just continues to be great throughout all these years and maybe even better. They are still just as funny and just as relevant as ever and I loved most episodes here to pieces.
Worst Episodes: The Gang Beats Boggs: Ladies Reboot and Charlie’s Home Alone.
Best Episodes: The Gang Makes Paddy’s Great Again and Time’s Up for the Gang.
