International Woodpecker (1957)
International Woodpecker Review
International Woodpecker is a 1957 animated short film from the Woody Woodpecker series. It is a pretty forgettable short.
Woody Woodpecker tells Knothead and Splinter the story of how woodpeckers have influenced world history. This is once again one of those Woody shorts that have this storybook framing device, which doesn’t fit this series well at all. The animation is solid and the historical premise was fine, but the framing was annoying.
With that being said, this one did benefit from a couple of pretty memorable period piece scenes and it functions as a fun parody of history in a great, energetic style that is typical for the series. But it needed more genuinely funny gags as I did not laugh once to be honest.
