Ice Age: Continental Drift Movie Review
Ice Age: Continental Drift is a 2012 animated adventure comedy film from Blue Sky Studios. It’s one of the worst entries of this respective franchise.

The plot focuses on Scrat sending Manny, Sid and Diego adrift on an iceberg with Sid’s Granny and causing them to face a gang of pirates led by Captain Gutt. It’s a bad plot, it’s as simple as that. Of course, none of the Ice Age movies have really had any meaningful or really that well crafted or original storylines, but at least they were somewhat well constructed. This one consists of a series of disconnected subplots, each one being utterly mediocre.
Let’s talk about the characters and some of the subplots. Manny is very tiresome here and not that interesting unfortunately. The drama between him and his daughter was never engaging whatsoever. I did not like the role of Peaches at all. All of this movie was just a series of uninteresting family drama, and don’t get me started on Sid’s grandma even.
Yes, Granny is terrible. Her jokes aren’t funny at all and her lusting over males in this movie was both awkward and unfunny. Sid had some moments as he always has, but he is much better off with his crew than with his family as all of his scenes with Manny and Diego are great, but unfortunately sparse. Diego is fine with his romance, but again this subplot was also uninspired. Crash and Eddie continue to be a nuisance while the film’s villain Captain Gutt is very over-the-top and cliched.
I did not like any of the new characters in Continental Drift while the old favorites are still, well, favorites. And that’s the main problem with this franchise that continues to plague it – they keep introducing new, weaker characters that hurt the whole series as a result.

The animation is fine, some of the action is cool, but the entire plot and the whole ice drama were not that interesting unfortunately. The movie is beyond chaotic and very mediocre in writing and even dialogue. There is one major highlight, though, and that has to be Scrat. He is awesome here and he’s got some of his finest scenes ever in this movie with that hyrax sequence being simply hilarious. I wish he had gotten more screen time as he made the whole affair much more tolerable.
