I Wanna Play House (1936)
I Wanna Play House Review
I Wanna Play House is a 1936 animated short film from the Merry Melodies series. It is such a fun, amusing entry.
It follows two mischievous bear cubs who sneak away from their father to play hide and sneak. I have seen this type of animated short film before, but this one features a couple of great moments so it is pretty solid. The first half is not that memorable, but the last third or so is great and of course the highlight is the sequence in which the cub gets drunk. Very good stuff.
I just found the animation incredibly weak here. I think it is high time for Merry Melodies to start having great animation having in mind that this is 1936 we’re talking about, the year when Disney already had pretty great animation in their shorts. The score is also forgettable so it is technically an uninspired film.
I Wanna Play house is technically not great, but with good humor and characters leading to a solid first entry for 1936.
