I Got Plenty of Mutton (1944)
I Got Plenty of Mutton Review
I Got Plenty of Mutton is a 1944 animated short film from the Looney Tunes series. It is quite a fun cartoon.
It follows a wolf who, in order to catch and eat a ram, disguises as a sheep to lure the male to him. But that all works a bit too well as the ram falls in love with the wolf in that truly hilarious finale which was eerily reminiscent to the ending from ‘Some Like It Hot’. I certainly appreciated its ending and the overall chase near the end that I wished that the first half was as good or as memorable as that certainly wasn’t the case.
It’s odd that this is a Looney Tunes entry as it has new, one-off characters, but those still worked both. The wolf is pretty good, but this is the ram’s show and he is so funny. Both are great, but the choice to focus more on pantomime than on dialogue somewhat hurt the movie as both of them felt like they needed more lines in my opinion.
I Got Plenty of Mutton needed more dialogue and a better first half, but the second one is great and the ending is hilarious. The sexual stuff here is smart, fun and revolutionary.
