Hot Fuzz Movie Review
Hot Fuzz is a 2007 action comedy film directed by Edgar Wright and starring Simon Pegg and Nick Frost. It’s the second entry in the Three Flavours Cornetto trilogy and it’s very weak.

Fuck off up the model village“

As a former London constable, Nicholas Angel finds it difficult to adapt to his new assignment in the sleepy British village of Sandford. Not only does he miss the excitement of the big city, but he also has a well-meaning fool for a partner. However, when a series of grisly accidents rocks Sandford, Nick smells something rotten in the idyllic village.
I really do not care for action films. I never have and I never will. I particularly find those 80s action flicks very boring and overrated. They are adored by so many nostalgic adults today, but for me they were never all that great.
That’s why I simply could not get into Hot Fuzz. It’s a movie that parodies and homages those movies from the eighties and it got me really bored doing that. Yes, it has some solid and even witty moments, but most of it is rather tired, dull and not all that funny to begin with.
This entire trilogy has that self-confident air about it, but in reality these movies were never particularly funny from the start. This one in particular focuses so much on the action that it really forgot to make audiences laugh, and sure enough, it did not make me laugh at any given moment.
Hot Fuzz is solidly made across the board. The cinematography, editing and even the action is well-executed for sure. But because it has so much action, it really becomes incredibly excessive and at the end of the day pointless even.

I did like some of the dialogue, but again not enough of it was there. Simon Pegg is very good as the protagonist, and Nick Frost plays his regular role. Both are good together, but again even their interactions are lacking, especially when compared to those in ‘Shaun of the Dead’ which is a much better movie in every way undoubtedly.
I do not like action movies of the eighties and nineties so I could not care less for Hot Fuzz. It’s a solidly made, acted and at times fun flick, but for the most part it focused too much on action and not enough on comedy, leading to a boring, overlong and unfunny film which is so much weaker than its predecessor.
