Hook, Lion and Sinker

Hook, Lion and Sinker Review

Hook, Lion and Sinker is a 1950 animated short film produced by Disney. It’s such an odd short.

Louie the lion and his son try to steal the fish that Donald has caught. We first met Louie back in ‘Lion Around’ that was released this same year. That movie was much better than this one, though. This cartoon focuses way too much on the lion and not enough on Donald himself.

You’d think judging by the screen time that Donald was given that this is not his movie at all and this has always been my issue whenever any of these shorts tried to span out to include other characters. It’s fine to include them, but not to make them the focal point of the story. The flick is charming enough and very well animated, but hardly fun or funny.

Hook, Lion and Sinker has solid animation and it is charming, but it also has a weak plot, no funny gags and a lack of Donald that hurt it in the long run.

My Rating – 3.4
