Hollywood Daffy (1946)
Hollywood Daffy Review
Hollywood Daffy is a 1946 animated short film from the Merry Melodies series. It is a very fun Daffy Duck outing.
Daffy Duck wants to see the movie stars and tries to enter the Warner Bros. studio, but one very tough, resilient security guard is there to stop him no matter what. I definitely found this short not as great as it could have been having in mind that the cameos are very few in between and some of the action could get repetitive in the second half, but most of it was pretty good and amusing.
I loved that security guard as he was a terrific counteract to Daffy who’s here as crazy and quick-thinking as he always is. I loved his one-liners and his smart dressing up as various celebrities. Those moments were hilarious. Another funny moment was the one with Jack Benny trying to get himself an Oscar plus both Bette Davis and Johnny Weissmuller get a terrific cameo themselves.
Hollywood Daffy could have been even greater, but it’s still a wildly entertaining ride with a terrific Daffy and some great cameos from movie stars of the day.
