Holiday for Shoestrings (1946)
Holiday for Shoestrings Review
Holiday for Shoestrings is a 1946 animated short film from the Merry Melodies series. It is such an underrated, wonderful entry.
This film is set to classical music and it follows a group of elves who make shoes for a shoe store. Now obviously the movie doesn’t have much of a plot and is your standard animated musical set against some group job which we’ve seen before many times in the Merry Melodies series, but even though old-fashioned, I still ended up really liking this one as it’s so charming.
I loved the character design of the elves as they look superb and quite memorable. The entire animation is absolutely superb with a great attention to detail and I found the shoe-making wonderfully utilized and with a massive amount of detail. The score is of course excellent and perfectly incorporated into the animation itself. I found the action on screen also very endearing and fun.
Holiday for Shoestrings doesn’t have much of a plot, but it’s still immensely charming and perfectly scored and animated.
