Hiss and Make Up (1943)
Hiss and Make Up Review
Hiss and Make Up is a 1943 animated short film from the Merry Melodies series. It is a weak short.
It’s a rather regular cat and canary short which benefits from a couple of shining original moments here and there, but for the most part it’s typical and uninspired. The ending is excellent as it’s especially dark and memorable. I also liked the woman in the picture and some of her lines.
But even though the characterization is pretty good, the action on screen is pretty mediocre for the most part. The film is overlong and not as entertaining as it should have been. The score and sound are solid, but the animation could have been better. Overall, I found it to be one of the weakest of the year’s Warner’s efforts.
Hiss and Make Up has a good ending, but other sequences are mostly overly uninspired and forgettable.
