Henhouse Henery (1949)
Henhouse Henery Review
Henhouse Henery is a 1949 animated short film from the Looney Tunes series. It is a very good flick.
I absolutely adore Foghorn Leghorn/Henery Hawk shorts, and this one is no exception. I did get the feeling that its humor as well as the situations felt scattershot owing to odd pacing in it, but overall it’s another stellar outing which benefits from the charisma of its two leads.
Yes, the Dawg is great too, and he’s got some very nice moments here, but Foghorn is amazing, and in particular I loved seeing him finally start singing his classic song Camptown Races. I absolutely adore this number, and the rooster singing it is an instantly memorable cartoon moment to be repeated later thankfully. But Henery Hawk is the highlight here with his final line being hilarious in a typically bratty fashion of his.
Henhouse Henery is scattershot in pace, but amazing in character moments. It’s also important for introducing for the first time the song Camptown Races to the Foghorn Leghorn mythology.
