Hawaiian Holiday (1937)
Hawaiian Holiday Review
Hawaiian Holiday is a 1937 animated short film from the Mickey Mouse series. It is a pretty forgettable flick.
Mickey, Minnie, Pluto, Donald and Goofy are vacationing in Hawaii. They have their expected misadventures there with the wildlife. I liked a couple of moments here, especially with Pluto who’s the most memorable character in particular. But Donald and Goofy also have their moments. I also really liked the animation which was lovely in scenery.
I loved that we got to see all five of these iconic characters together in one film. However, that’s also the main issue here as the flick never really had enough time for either of them to shine, expect maybe for our endearing dog friend. The humor thus suffered and the pacing is also problematic.
Hawaiian Holiday would have been great three years before, but even though it’s sweet and looking great, it lacks in humor, pacing and characterization to make a bigger impact.
