Gopher Goofy Review

Gopher Goofy is a 1942 animated short film from the Looney Tunes series. It is a somewhat solid, but forgettable flick.

Two gophers organize to outsmart the farmer which they eventually manage to do. This is your regular cartoon from this period which aims just for the simplest, most precise plotting and characterization and it works to some extent as those gophers are pretty memorable and fun, but the farmer is forgettable on the other hand.

The animation is actually much more polished and overall better looking than most of its contemporary black-and-white Looney Tunes, but it still pales infinitely in comparison to color Merry Melodies. The score is also forgettable and the action should have been better along with the humor. But it’s entertaining enough leading to a solid effort.

Gopher Goofy has its moments, it looks good and the characters are solid, but the action, humor and energy are sorely lacking.
