Good Scouts (1938)
Good Scouts Review
Good Scouts is a 1938 Disney Donald Duck animated short that was nominated for an Oscar. It is a pretty good, fun short.
Donald Duck and his nephews Huey, Dewey and Louie are on a scouting expedition at Yellowstone National Park. They laugh at his efforts and he tries to make them feel sorry. Eventually, he steps on a geyser and gets thrown in the air where the bear waits for him on the cliff. This is the basic story here and it’s overall fine for what it is, albeit far from great. The animation is terrific though and very polished.
Good Scouts is somewhat slow at first and overall leisurely paced and lacking in strong humor, but it’s still a very entertaining, charming film with the ducks singing and marching being one of the highlights. The geyser stuff is also quite well executed and the action there is memorable. The nephews are a lot of fun and Donald is per usual terrific.
Good Scouts definitely is leisurely paced, but still a good Oscar nominee with fun action and memorable character moments for the ducks.
