Goliath II (1960)
Goliath II Review
Goliath II is a 1960 Oscar-nominated animated short film from Disney.
It is about a small six-inch elephant who is a disgrace to his family due to his size and eventually proves himself a hero when he scares off one bad mouse. This is a fan-favorite film from my country and the entire region of former Yugoslavia really, but I haven’t seen it before now ever and I am not particularly impressed. It’s a cute little Disney flick which is very endearing and undeniably entertaining, but nothing truly great is present here.
I did like its use of Xerography, the first ever use from Disney before their 60s films such as ‘101 Dalmatians’. But in plot itself it felt too similar to ‘The Jungle Book’ and ‘Dumbo’ in particular with some reused scenes from other famous Disney films as well. I did like the characters quite a bit as they’re well developed and amusing, but the story itself is uninspired and the movie is overlong and unoriginal.
Goliath II has solid animation, good characters and it’s an endearing movie, but it’s unoriginal and copying scenes from other movies way too much.
