Glee Season 3 Review

The third season of Glee is an improvement upon the previous two. It still has its many weak episodes, but overall the show is improving constantly.

Let’s analyze this season character by character. Will continues to be underwhelming as do most of the adult characters on this progressively more teen-oriented show, and his relationship with Emma is underwhelming and simply not as strong as the show has been building it up before now.

I did love Sue though and, though less villainous now, she still continues to absolutely steal the show comedy-wise with hilarious insults directed toward everybody who comes into her path. The coach herself continues to be an overly problematic, weak female character.

Kurt and Blaine got their moments here and there, but I still do think that they need to split up as Kurt deserves a more interesting boyfriend. I did love, though, the revelation of Blaine’s non-gelled hair. That was hilarious. Tina actually got some episodes for herself here which was a nice change in pace for sure.

Puckerman’s problems with school were really well touched upon in a couple of episodes, but overall he needed more stuff to do this time around. As for Rachel and Finn, they actually got a stupendous sequence in that final episode where they split up which was quite emotional and overall, though overly relying on their romance, their relationship was quite well written. In particular, her failure to be accepted into school and her eventual acceptance were both very strong moments.

Brittany and Santana continue to be a power couple, but they needed more episodes this time around. The entire season relied way too little and way too much on certain characters and that bothered me. Musically speaking, it was solid and quite inspired in some areas, but of course uninspired in many other choices per usual.

I did love the prom episode which was emotionally satisfying and that finale was superb and I really felt that they were splitting up and starting their own journeys, but I do wonder what’s this show now going to become when they actually finished school, at least most of them.

Overall, I liked this third season quite a bit despite it having many weaker episodes in the first half of the season which was inferior, but the second half was pretty good and I did like what they did with some characters, but others were underutilized. But its prom and finale are outstanding.

Worst Episodes: Pot o’ Gold and Dance with Somebody.

Best Episodes: Prom-asaurus and Goodbye.

My Rating – 3.7
