George and A.J. (2009)
George and A.J. Review
George and A.J. is a 2009 animated short film. It is a Pixar short that was based on ‘Up’.
It follows nurses George and A.J. and what they did after Carl Fredricksen left with his house tied to balloons. This was one of two shorts that centered on this movie, but ‘Dug’s Special Mission’ was infinitely better and more polished. The main issue with this film is its animation. Apparently, they had to work with a very small budget, which resulted in limited animation where characters’ mouths barely move while they speak. It was odd and disappointing to witness such a cheap-looking project from Pixar.
The premise was actually pretty great and a solid fodder for comedy, but the weak execution destroyed any potential that it had for greatness. Watching the two men’s befuddled expressions was initially funny, but eventually it became quite repetitive. They are charming characters and the old people in the movie were also a lot of fun, but the voice acting was quite bad with Carl and Russell having different voices that really bothered me.
