Fool Coverage (1952)
Fool Coverage is a 1952 animated short film from the Looney Tunes series. It is a tremendous movie.
Daffy Duck is a salesman, a very aggressive insurance salesman in fact. He tries to make Porky Pig sign on the dotted line to get insurance when elephants stampede over him during a hailstorm on the fourth of July around 4 hours. And that exactly is what ends up happening in the finale much to Daffy’s chagrin. I personally found the finale strong, but maybe it would have benefited from a twist or two as it felt overly straightforward.
But I loved the whole movie, particularly the action as all of the scenarios where Daffy gets an accident instead of the pig were very entertaining. Porky is so good here, very endearing and seemingly quite clever or happy. But Daffy’s frustrations are endless here, and all are hilarious to behold. I find him to be the funniest in this perfectly cast role of the salesman. He killed it here, and I want more such films for him.
After many lackluster efforts during this year, Fool Coverage is finally a true classic. Daffy Duck and Porky Pig are phenomenal in this wonderfully conceptualized, very funny flick.
