Fodder and Son

Fodder and Son Review

Fodder and Son is a 1957 animated short film from the Woody Woodpecker series. It is a pretty odd short.

Woody goes to Yellowstone National Park and there he encounters a bear who does anything to get food from people. This short is quite strange in that Woody doesn’t even appear on screen before two minutes going in. He was fine here, but clearly sidelined in what is supposed to be his own movie.

The titular character worked for me and I found him to be quite amusing. The voice acting is strong too. There is a lot of charm to the main duo, but they did not quite fit in with the woodpecker and the movie could never get away from that particular issue. It’s reasonably diverting, but also lacking in energy and memorable gags.

Fodder and Son is charming and solid, but it also felt too strange for a Woody Woodpecker short in structure and characters.

My Rating – 3.5
