Fin’n Catty (1943)
Fin’n Catty Review
Fin’n Catty is a 1943 animated short film from the Merry Melodies series. It is a solid, but far from great cartoon.
It follows various shenanigans between a cat and a fish who somehow wears a little hat on its head. That made for an interesting character design for sure and I really liked how the fish looked, but the cat looked pretty standard. Their personalities are well pantomimed and I liked that the film was silent quite a bit. The animation is also pretty strong and the sound is good too.
But the film is way too slow to be entertaining, especially for today’s audiences. Yes, it has its very enjoyable and fun moments, but because the movements are so slow, the pace so tedious and the runtime too long for such a simple story, the movie ended up being overlong and somewhat dull.
Fin’n Catty has its enjoyable moments and fine characters, but it’s too slow and uneventful to be particularly entertaining.
