Electric Earthquake (1944)
Electric Earthquake Review
Electric Earthquake is a 1942 animated short film from Fleischer Studios. It is the seventh entry in the Superman series.
I adored this one and it’s simply one of the greatest shorts in this series. Yes, the action itself could have been more memorable and the movie needed a longer runtime, but the overall premise is excellent and the setting is so well utilized. It’s a great film mostly thanks to its amazing villain.
Yes, the villain is a Native American who isn’t a stereotype for once and that was groundbreaking for a 40s film. He’s so calm, calculated and with a great reason for his wrongdoings. And he genuinely halfway succeeded in his plan which made him superb capable and that made the movie quite dark and certainly darker than most others entries in the series. It’s a different kind of superhero story which really worked.
Electric Earthquake is once again superbly animated, but also so well scripted and containing an absolutely terrific villain.
