Educated Fish (1937)
Educated Fish Review
Educated Fish is a 1937 animated short film from the Color Classics series. It is a pretty solid film.
We follow one fish who doesn’t want to study about hooks and fishing poles and eventually gets caught on one. He learns his lesson and thus this film is a good message flick. But it could be rather slow in the first half and rather odd in the second half. I am talking about that worm being all sexy and seductive. That was incredibly odd. But I guess it also worked as it was interesting and different, but definitely feeling disconnected from the rest of the film.
The animation is actually pretty good and the colors are polished and strong. The designs of the fish and the worm aren’t all that great though and the score is forgettable. The movie needed more energy and memorable characters in its roster. So overall it is solid, but not deserving of its Oscar nomination for sure.
Educated Fish definitely is a solid flick with good animation and message, but with a slow first half and an odd scene with the worm.
