Duck! Rabbit, Duck! (1953)
Duck! Rabbit, Duck! is a 1953 animated short film from the Merry Melodies series. It is a very fun flick.
Bugs and Daffy try to con Elmer into shooting the other one in this obviously familiar short. There have been shorts with the same premise before, though most of this cartoon still features original gags that are all very well executed. Again, the originality is lacking, but the runtime is short, the pace brisk and the entertainment factor is so great that I ultimately did not mind its familiarity.
The best scenes are those with Daffy getting himself shot in the head, and each shot produces a different shape that resembles some other animal. The beak animation is stupendous here, and yes, that is something that I have never thought that I would say, but this is a film about the duck beak, and it’s very funny when it comes to that. Daffy obviously stole the show from Bugs and Elmer who are both great, but less memorable than him.
Duck! Rabbit, Duck! is definitely familiar, but the animation, pace and humor are so excellent.
