Dough Ray Me-ow (1948)
Dough Ray Me-ow Review
Dough Ray Me-ow is a 1948 animated short film from the Merry Melodies series. It is a disappointing flick.
This is a film that follows one parrot and a cat. Louie the Parrot is second in line to inherit the family fortune behind the family cat Heathcliff. Louis plots the end of Heathcliff. Needless to say, it’s not a particularly strong short. Yes, the animation and character designs are both very good. Some scenes are fine and the voices are excellent as well.
But these two characters are new and unnecessary this late in the game. I did not feel a strong connection with either one of them and they felt like lesser versions of Tweety and Sylvester. I would like more for the series to focus on already established characters than to constantly bring new ones to its detriment.
Dough Ray Me-ow has its fine moments and it looks good, but the new characters aren’t all that interesting and the plot is familiar.
