Dog Collared (1950)
Dog Collared Review
Dog Collared is a 1950 animated short film from the Merry Melodies series. It is a solid, though forgettable flick.
Porky wants to return a dog to his owner for a big prize, but eventually the dog manipulates the situation so that Porky adopts him. That finale is very funny with the revelation that the dog can talk being perfectly executed in terms of comedic timing. It’s a fun ending, and the dog is a good new character.
Porky is also good as he always is, and the whole short is solid for what it is. However, the majority of it isn’t all that amusing, and it’s actually rather repetitive in its scenarios. I wanted more memorable, more varied scenes and not just all the same manipulation stuff.
Dog Collared is repetitive and not great, but the dog is a fun character and the ending’s great.
