Design for Leaving (1954)
Design for Leaving is a 1954 animated short film from the Looney Tunes series. It is a very funny cartoon.
In this short, Daffy Duck is once again a salesman, this time around he is selling “futuristic” appliances. It’s a hilarious short that is obviously not anything new as we’ve seen Daffy act as a salesman a couple of times before, but this is a formula that works, and here it worked out splendidly, especially in the second half.
The first encounter was one of the highlights, and the ending is so funny. But the funniest scene has to be the one where Daffy destroys the entire downstairs of the house in a hilariously failed elevator routine. The animation here is terrific and the action scenes are beautifully handled. The movie utilizes on its setting splendidly, especially in the tech scenes with the elevator, the robot and the buttons. The red button being built up for suspense throughout was also a great touch.
Design for Leaving is a familiar, but stupendously executed short with hilarious Daffy, a couple of amazing sequences and beautifully executed action scenes.
