Daffy – The Commando (1943)
Daffy – The Commando Review
Daffy – The Commando is a 1943 animated short film from the Looney Tunes series. It is a solid, quite amusing short.
A German commander and his subordinate have a hard time with Daffy during World War II when the duck arrives and of course mocks and humiliates them. This is another WWII flick, but this time around I actually really enjoyed it because those war scenes and figures are perfectly parodied. The subordinate character is so amusing and of course the commander is fantastic. His constant calling of “Shultz!” made me chuckle at times.
Daffy is also reliably good and he is so wonderfully brutal here. The entire film has forgettable score and just solid animation while always being a missed opportunity in terms of the humor as it is a funny short but it needed to have been much funnier as the characters and premise are so good. But still some scenes are excellent including in particular the translation scenes which are brilliant and Hitler being hit in the head with a mallet being hilarious.
Daffy – The Commando could have been even better, but it’s still a reasonably entertaining, quite funny short with particularly strong characterization.
