Contrary Condor (1944)
Contrary Condor Review
Contrary Condor is a 1944 animated short film from the Donald Duck series. It is such a fun cartoon.
Donald, practicing as an ornithologist, is trying to collect a condor egg. When the Mother Condor returns, she mistakes him for her son. This movie features narration that is reminiscent of the Goofy shorts. It felt strange to witness narration in a Donald short, but it ultimately worked because that science-oriented talk was cleverly contrasted with the shenanigans on screen.
The animation is gorgeous and benefiting from sunset-hued colors that really appealed to me. Donald acting as a baby to steal a valuable egg is a premise that is very familiar for anybody who’s seen many of these older cartoons, but the execution is so good that it managed to elevate the movie to higher levels. Donald’s mannerisms are particularly amusing and the movie is genuinely endearing and fun.
