China Jones Review

China Jones is a 1959 animated short film from the Looney Tunes series. It is a really dated short.

Daffy Duck is China Jones, a fortune-seeking Irish private eye working in the Far East. He finds a call for help in a Chinese fortune cookie and decides to investigate. The main problem with this cartoon is obvious – it is racist as hell. It is caricaturist in its Chinese characters and, as a result, very much of its time. It is not even funny, but just stereotypical.

But another problem is the plot itself. It’s your standard Daffy being an investigator plot that is unfortunately much weaker than his previous movies where he was in that role. The animation and the score are also only okay. Daffy himself is very amusing as is expected from him, but this cartoon did not deserve his greatness.

China Jones is a subpar Daffy Duck short that is inferior in its storyline and very dated in its stereotypes.
