Centaurworld Review
Centaurworld is an animated musical comedy series that premiered both of its seasons in 2021 on Netflix. It’s a forgettable show that certainly has its merits.

Centaurworld follows a warhorse who is transported from her embattled world to a strange land inhabited by vibrant, singing centaurs of all species, shapes, and sizes. The first season has ten episodes while the second one has eight, though the finale is immensely long, so the two share a similar length. I personally preferred the lighter first season, though there is a case to be made that the second season is more epic and ambitious.
But that is my main issue with this show – its tonal imbalance. It was at first such a lighthearted, fun show for kids and adults who are animation fans, but then suddenly it had to go into overly mature, dark territory, and it just seemed forced to me personally. I could never connect those two extremes happening in this one world. It just did not gel together properly for me.
When it comes to the characters, they are fun as a group, but not so much individually. The protagonist is well developed and her arc is quite deep, but others fail to be as memorable. Most are just comic reliefs, the best one being Zulius, who is this hilarious effeminate centaur. He represents just how hilariously gay and campy this ridiculous show is.
Centaurworld has a polarizing animation style. On the one hand, I did appreciate its colorful aesthetic. Frequently the show was quite beautiful and charming to look at. What I did not like, though, was the design of the characters. It was overly messy and at times overly familiar to other shows with the humans being way too reminiscent to the characters in the ‘Avatar’ universe.

As for the music, it is okay. This show is a musical, but the second season forsake that in favor of fantasy action. The first season, thus, fared much better and it featured many memorable songs, but most are forgettable and too similar to each other.
Overall, Centaurworld is not among the best that Netflix has to offer when it comes to animation. While it’s colorful and breezy enough and it has its interesting characters and fun songs, most of the show is uninspired, forgettable and tonally imbalanced. It should have had better dialogue and script. The humor can be quite good here, but there should been much more of it.
