Cannery Woe (1961)
Cannery Woe Review
Cannery Woe is a 1961 animated short film from the Looney Tunes series. It is a very entertaining short.
When it comes to the plot of this movie, it’s familiar – the mice call in Speedy Gonzales to take care of the cat, who is Sylvester himself. There had been shorts with this premise before and certainly this flick lacks originality, but the execution matters and here it’s excellent for the most part. The animation is also stellar.
The ending is a lot of fun, but it is in the first half where the movie was at its most quotable and at its funniest. Jose and Manuel are so amusing and their initial conversation was hilarious. The Mexican accents are reliably goofy while the whole flick flows well, though Sylvester came in too late in the game. He was very memorable regardless.
Cannery Woe is a very funny Speedy Gonzales cartoon that is familiar in its premise, but excellent in its execution. The first half is particularly strong.
My Rating – 4
