Bye, Bye Bluebeard (1949)
Bye, Bye Bluebeard Review
Bye, Bye Bluebeard is a 1949 animated short film from the Merry Melodies series. It is a pretty solid flick.
Finally, Porky Pig gets a solid short for himself, though it’s far from great given its somewhat familiar premise. The execution is so good that the premise is uplifted, but still I wanted a more original and more memorable storyline. The characters are all great, though.
In particular, that mouse was terrific and very smart. I liked the eventual revelation of the villain, which was great. Porky himself was terrific, so amusing and his reactions are fun throughout. The brutal ending is also quite memorable, but I wanted a longer runtime and more scenes for each of the three characters.
Bye, Bye Bluebeard has its problems, but it’s overall a solid, pretty amusing Merry Melody starring Porky Pig.
