Busy Bakers (1940)
Busy Bakers Review
Busy Bakers is a 1940 animated short film from the Merry Melodies series. It is a very weak entry.
The film is about a baker as he struggles to make money in his bakery, but eventually the bakery becomes successful and he gives a free cake to a homeless person. Now there are positive aspects in this film with its message of course being resonant and its animation being particularly terrific. The color and the overall execution became much smoother and more polished around this time for the series.
However, everything else is very subpar. The characters are forgettable and the overall story is very dull. Once again the movie is incredibly boring, slow in pace and with many overly extended, unnecessary sequences. The humor is also not great and that final gag in my opinion was not funny at all. I at least expected that ending to be funny, but I did not even get that.
Busy Bakers is definitely very strongly animated, but it is still a very weak entry in plot and humor. The series really did struggle around this period in time.
