Bunco Busters

Bunco Busters Review

Bunco Busters is a 1955 animated short film from the Woody Woodpecker series. It is a pretty weak short.

It seems that Woody wins a pot full of dough that con man Buzz Buzzard notices and sets his sights on stealing. He leads Woody on a phony treasure hunt on Cataloni Island where all the materials Woody needs to continue the hunt cost him a bundle. This was the last appearance of Buzz Buzzard until quite some time and I wished that he had gone out on a better note.

He’s pretty good here, but not great. The movie is at its best when it’s focusing on world building and interesting scene transitions. The animation is terrific and the more creative island scenes were the highlights. But Woody himself is forgettable and the dynamic between the two is far from memorable. The plot is different than usual, which I appreciated, but the execution was subpar.

Bunco Busters is a solid, somewhat unique short that is well animated, but lacking in memorable scenes and/or gags.

My Rating – 3.6
