Bugs Bunny Nips the Nips (1944)
Bugs Bunny Nips the Nips Review
Bugs Bunny Nips the Nips is a 1944 animated short film from the Merry Melodies series. It is a very troublesome cartoon.
It features Bugs interacting with a Japanese man. Needless to say, it’s incredibly racist. It’s much worse than anything they’ve ever done with black people and thus it should be viewed more harshly upon nowadays. It simply did not age well at all. Some scenes do work admittedly and the beginning and ending are okay as they do not feature that man, but all the middle scenes are truly unfortunate.
Bugs is okay, but the dialogue that they give him is highly offensive. I liked the two meeting, but everything afterwards felt highly offensive to the point of becoming really unlikable to watch. The action, animation and score are all good though. I just wish that they hadn’t put Bugs in such a problematic flick.
Bugs Bunny Nips the Nips has its good scenes, but it’s way too offensive to be enjoyed more and thus highly dated nowadays.
