Buddy the Woodsman (1934)
Buddy the Woodsman Review
Buddy the Woodsman is a 1934 animated short film from the Looney Tunes series. It is a charming, but slight short.
Buddy here is very energetic and much more enjoyable than usual. I liked him as a woodsman, but all of the other men along with Cookie did not get much to do unfortunately. The score is also rather forgettable, but the animation is admittedly fine. The short is one of those Looney Tunes that feature one setting and mine it fully for laughs, but in my opinion the woods setting wasn’t fully utilized here.
The third act is very good and everything with that goat was a lot of fun. I liked when it bumped its head on the tree and fell, that was amusing. And the entire chase between the two was fun. But the first half of the picture has too much setup and not enough actual laughs and action. It is better than most Buddy pictures, but still far from memorable or actually good.
Buddy the Woodsman has a good goat part, but it doesn’t utilize on its setting fully and the first half is lacking.
