Buckaroo Bugs (1944)
Buckaroo Bugs Review
Buckaroo Bugs is a 1944 animated short film from the Looney Tunes series. It is a solid cartoon.
It’s a western with some World War II references per usual, but this time around Bugs Bunny is an antagonist rather than a protagonist. That was new and interesting as he fitted this villainous role quite well, but I still definitely prefer him more as a protagonist myself. He’s good here, just not great. But the ending is fine and I really liked some of the action here.
The dialogue is pretty good too and the dimwitted protagonist is also a solid, though familiar creation. I found the animation somewhat subpar, but that just might be due to the low quality of the version I’ve seen on the Internet. The movie is solid, effective and fun, but overlong and not as funny or as unique as some other entries around this period.
Buckaroo Bugs is a solid Looney Tune with some memorable moments and an interesting use of Bugs, but the animation and runtime are problematic.
