Broad City Season 4 Review
The fourth season of Broad City is another wonderful one. Spending time with these two gals is a lot of goofy fun.

“Think what we have sacrificed to enter this sexless fart party“

Sliding Doors is a strong opening that is too much oriented on its premise which involves the different lives that they could have had had they met differently, but still that led to a fun, authentic episode and a charming trip to the past.
Twaining Day is one of the finest episodes of the season as both of its subplots are stupendous. Abbi meets Trey and has sex with him leading to a lot of awkward sequences. The Shania Twain turn truly is hilarious and her one-liners are so funny. As for Ilana, she starts working for a restaurant owned by RuPaul. Needless to say, he killed it in his role and was so incredibly funny and they perfectly incorporated his persona and one-liners from his show.
Just the Tips is not my favorite episode. It is solid in terms of character development for Abbi who is not a relationship person and is thus continually forcing her relationships, but otherwise the episode is not funny or entertaining enough.
Mushrooms is not my type of episode, though I can definitely appreciate the true power and sheer impressiveness of its animation which is perfectly lifted from the opening credits style to create a colorful world for Abbi and Ilana to hang out in during their drug-fueled trip.

Abbi’s Mom continue to use RuPaul stupendously and he is so funny, but the heart of the episode is Abbi’s relationship with her mother. The conversation that the two have and where the mom states how she never had enough fun in her life is just so heartbreaking.
Witches again explores Abbi’s insecurities so well, this time with her aging and looks. This season particularly emphasized on strong character development with Abbi’s relationship issues and insecurities and Ilana’s commitment issues, depression and unemployment. The Trump joke here is ridiculous, but definitely hilarious in a typical Broad City crazy fashion.
Florida is a very interesting episode that takes the two to Florida and they enjoy their time and even want to stay there until they realize how racist the residents are. It’s a great ending and of course Lincoln and Ilana are back together in such a wonderful final scene.
House-Sitting is a fun, though flawed episode that doesn’t explore Abbi’s creepy teacher’s obsession with young students all that well plus Jaime’s sex comedy shtick starts feeling old. Ilana is great here and I loved how her relationship with Lincoln naturally progresses.

Bedbugs is another hugely entertaining episode which puts Abbi in an uncomfortable situation as she doesn’t know a name of the shop owner she always goes to. I loved how they showed her bad side here. And Ilana’s bedbugs problem is beautifully explored as it showcases how everyone shuns her when she gets them. Very realistic.
Friendiversary is wonderful! The two see potential murder and try to stop it leading to hilarity of course. I got that it was a sex doll from the beginning as it was too obvious, but still that didn’t stop me from enjoying their fun adventure. The ending is beautiful as it shows us how powerful their friendship is.
In the end, the fourth season of Broad City has its somewhat weaker episodes, but all are either solid or great with the great ones exploring important issues and giving us terrific character growth for our two heroines. The series continues to be adventurous and fun but also sophisticated.
Worst Episodes: Just the Tips and Witches.
Best Episodes: Twaining Day and Friendiversary.
