Bowery Bugs is a 1949 animated short film from the Merry Melodies series. It is a problematic flick.

This is yet another Merry Melody which is dated now because of its story. Well, it’s a historical flick even for its time, but still this incident, though they taught me about it, is still not all that interesting, and to me it was never that great of an idea to turn it into a cartoon. It somewhat works, but mostly this character wasn’t all that interesting.

Bowery Bugs has very strong animation and some solid details here and there. I particularly liked some of the situations here and the fact that Bugs disguised himself many times here led to of course many very amusing moments to be had. The humor is okay, but overall the storyline did not allow this flick to flourish too much.

Bowery Bugs has some fine Bugs moments and it’s so well animated, but the overall storyline is somewhat bland.
