Bosko the Lumberjack (1932)
Bosko the Lumberjack Review
Bosko the Lumberjack is a 1932 animated short film from the Looney Tunes series. It is one of the best entries so far.
Bosko is a lumberjack in this cartoon and Honey comes to give me him his lunch, but a bad guy kidnaps her and it is up to Bosko to save her. This is an archetypal cartoon formula, but it usually works when done right and this is done really well. Again it could have been trimmed down a bit in the first half, but I liked that tree gag near the beginning where it became alive and crawled to the machine to get chopped.
But the second half is where it becomes great. Honey’s infatuation with Bosko is hilarious to behold and she has rarely been this funny. Bosko is great as a hero here and that villain is typical, yet very well utilized. I loved the voices here, the humor was good and the action was stupendous. The conclusion was the highlight, especially its last couple of moments. I liked how he defeated the guy, but I loved the kiss at the end too.
Bosko the Lumberjack is one of the finest Looney Tunes so far – funny and entertaining with great action and excellent character moments.
My Rating – 4.1
