Bootle Beetle (1947)
Bootle Beetle Review
Bootle Beetle is a 1947 animated short film produced by Disney. It is a pretty solid flick.
A rare breed of insect, the Bootle Beetle, tells a young beetle the story of how, in his youth, Donald Duck tried to capture him. This is such a unique take on a Donald Duck short after the last one that also was authentic in starring Daisy herself. It signals a creative period in the history of this series and I am definitely up for it. Although it lacked in Donald scenes, it compensated for a well written story staring this scared, but adventurous insect.
The ending worked for me and was quite fun, but it could have been even more memorable. The animation is stellar and I really appreciated the design of the insect that was more in line with the earlier Disney shorts from the thirties. This guy was so cute. The narration was excessive, but endearing. This isn’t a funny movie, but it was immensely enjoyable and so original.
