Boat Builders (1938)
Boat Builders Review
Boat Builders is a 1938 Mickey Mouse cartoon. It is a pretty fine flick.
Mickey, Goofy and Donald are on another adventure, this time around they’re on a boat together and of course shenanigans ensue. The main problem with this flick is the lack of excitement and humor in the first half where the movie is all set-up and nothing interesting as it has almost no memorable action scenes.
That was a problem for me as well as Donald’s lack of screen time. But Mickey is good and of course Goofy steals the show this time. That entire third act with the mermaid where he gets smitten with that toy is hilarious and his thirst is so funny as well as his speech pattern there. The animation in the cartoon is also very nice with such pleasing colors.
Boat Builders is a fine, though not great cartoon. It has a standout third act and animation, but the rest of it should have been better. It was a rather traditional way to open the new year of 1938 for the series.
