Birdy and the Beast (1944)
Birdy and the Beast Review
Birdy and the Beast is a 1944 animated short film from the Merry Melodies series. It is a solid, fun cartoon.
My problem with this cartoon is twofold. One is that, although it is a Tweety cartoon, it’s still a prototype one as Sylvester doesn’t look like his usual self at all and I disliked his design. And another problem is that the movie is not as entertaining or as funny as it should have been owing to a bit slower pace than usual.
However, it’s still very good owing to a couple of winning sequences. I actually liked all of the scenes between the two, but the highlight was surely that bombing sequence which was well done in a typical cartoon fashion. The ending is even better with that Tweety line being badass and hilarious at the same time. Sylvester is fine here, but the titular birdy makes this entry really click into its place.
Birdy and the Beast is not great, but it’s pretty good owing to excellent Tweety and a fantastic, hilarious ending.
