Bilby (2018)
Bilby Review
Bilby is a 2018 animated short film from DreamWorks Animation. It’s such a cute, harmless cartoon.
It follows the titular bilby who tries to run away from predators in the Australian Outback, but he has to save a baby albatross who’s pursued by predators constantly. Eventually, the two settle on a cliff and befriend. It’s a ridiculous animated short that is very much a cartoon in its plot which not only could never happen, but also the law-defying physics are silly for better and for worse.
The movie needed less action in it as it’s constantly fueled by a new dangerous situation. But it still manages to be sweet in their friendship and very beautiful in the ending itself. That overwhelming action is pretty good and I just loved the Australian Outback here as it was gorgeously portrayed thanks to some stunning CGI animation. But ‘Bird Karma’ is definitely the better DreamWorks animated short from the same year.
Bilby is cartoony and action-heavy, but nonetheless highly endearing, fun and beautifully utilized in its location thanks to some stunning animation.
