Beanstalk Bunny Review

Beanstalk Bunny Review

Beanstalk Bunny is a 1955 animated short film from the Merry Melodies series. It is a great short.

Just as they always do, Warner Bros. managed to make a pretty different, lively new adaptation of the famous tale Jack and the Beanstalk. Basically, we got two Jacks here in Bugs and Daffy while the giant is Elmer himself. It was a glorious casting idea as all three fitted their roles superbly. Certainly the movie needed stronger humor overall, but the plot points are all rather terrific.

I loved the beginning and the whole mid section is so much fun, but the ending is the best part. The giant carrot garden is instantly memorable whereas what happened to Daffy was amusing and actually quite brutal. The reason why this flick works so well lies in the strong understanding of its characters, in particular Daffy being greedy and Bugs being resourceful. I also really liked that the two at least for an instance tried to collaborate and that made for a different dynamic.

Beanstalk Bunny is a terrific short that is so well animated, so much fun and featuring many memorable scenes with the ending being the finest.

My Rating – 4.2
